Wouldn’t you love to have the time to spend on skin care in order to keep the soft, healthy skin you had as a child? If you are like most people, you probably do not have the luxury of spending hours each day on skin care. As you age, your skin becomes thinner and develops wrinkles; the number of blood vessels in the skin decreases, and you lose that healthy, youthful glow you once enjoyed. You have fewer oil glands in your skin, so your skin appears dryer – how can you improve your skin’s tone and texture without spending thousands of dollars at a spa? Fortunately, there are several things you can do easily at home to maintain a healthy complexion and to increase your outer beauty! The most important step to having healthy, clear skin is to protect yourself from the harmful UV rays of the sun. First, avoid spending time in direct sunlight when its rays are at their most intense, from the hours of 10 am to 4 pm. Whenever you spend time outdoors (and remember, the sun can damage your skin even when it doesn’t seem sunny), protect yourself with sunscreen. Wear protective clothing – tightly-woven fabrics such as cotton can protect you from the sun’s harmful rays. Light colors reflect sunlight, but dark colors attract it; you will feel cooler and be more protected if you stick to light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. Some clothing companies even manufacture SPF clothing which blocks out UV rays.
By protecting yourself from UV damage, you can prevent premature wrinkling, allergic reactions, and skin cancer. Another factor in premature skin aging is smoking. Smoking destroys the fibers in the outer layers of skin which give it its elasticity, causing aging and wrinkling. Smoking is never good for you, and quitting can help you to feel and look better, as well as improving your long-term health. For clean, clear skin, it is important to wash gently. Your healthy skin care regimen should include washing in warm (not hot) water and avoid harsh cleansers. To avoid rinsing away the natural oils from your skin, do not shower or bathe for more than 15 minutes or so, and pat your skin dry rather than rubbing it hard with a towel. Moisturize regularly after bathing with a healthy skin cream to retain moisture in your skin.
For healthy skin face maintainence, shave carefully with a dry, sharp razor. Shave right after showering, or apply a warm, wet cloth to your face for several minutes before shaving; never shave without a cream or lotion. By following these healthy skin tips, you can improve both your appearance and your self-esteem. Having healthy skin can make you feel better about yourself and improve your self-confidence and sense of well-being.
